Target still rocks. Full stop.

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

In yet another stroke of marketing genius, Target does the pop-up thing in NYC with four Bullseye Bodega shops. The stores, open to the public from Friday the 12th through Monday the 15th, are filled with goods from twenty-two of the retailer’s designer collaborations. They’re previewing collections you can’t yet get from designers like Anya Hindmarch and Sigerson Morrison, as well as prominently featuring their cooler brands- all in a Costco meets bodega setting. What I love about Target is how they keep redefining our ideas of high/low as well as shopping as experience. And calling it a bodega resonates well with the 212 crowd. Genius.

Cool street art project

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Thought I would share this cool collaboration from a global group of artists on the streets of Lyon, France. Artists like Cody Hudson took traditional street sign art and gave it their own signature twists, avec a sense of humor and playfulness. The works of Cody Hudson, Kid Acne, and Jeremyville are pictured below. Check out this link to see more:

Great photographer from Singapore

Friday, September 5th, 2008

I heart this guy Jing, who is an awesome shooter from Singapore. He is repped stateside by Josette Lata and has a website, www.superhyperreal.com. I love his wit and his compositions of groups and sort of fun take on cultural mores and stereotypes. Heady stuff and absolutely gorgeous. The photographers from eastern climes are surely having their moments.

The best chick button down of all dang time…

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008

Hey now…came across this label today called Claridge and King and thought this shirt was hot. Comes in oxford blue and white and I heart it. Picturing it with leggings and boots, or just tights and little high heeled wing tips a la Edie Sedg. Dig.

David Ellis installation at the Theory store in NYC

Tuesday, August 19th, 2008

Just wanted to shout out David Ellis’s amazing piece for the Theory store in Manhattan- a marriage of painting and performance and awesomeness. I find it super cool that the bastion of super safe but elegant work attire commissioned this. I had the great pleasure of working with Mr. Ellis on a massive HIV awareness project in Philadelphia a few years back and he is an amazingly talented individual. Check out this vid from New York magazine’s website- true this was in April, but VF just ran a piece about him this month:

Jet set chic and the like…

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Hello world. I have always been obsessed with global chic and love to work with people who have similar tastes. Just got an email from a friend of mine, Mobolaji Dawodu, who is an amazing stylist/consultant and excellent arbiter of global chic. To me that means embracing the world around you and loving style that is one part gypsy, one part rock and roll street and ten parts timeless. I just adore his aesthetic and his work…he is super connected to beauty in all creeds and colors and I just love his taste. His site is www.mobolajidawodu.com. If you ever need someone with an incredible POV on what the world wears now he is your man.

I’m dreaming of souks today

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

I have lots of paperwork to do today. It seems that there are more and more forms to fill out these days and not sure I can bear it. So instead I dream of a quick jaunt to Morocco where I will shop for caftans, learn how to cook a proper tagine, and wear lots and lots of gold jewelry. I think La Mamounia would be perfectly suited to my need for luxury- I will sit on low cushions and drink mint tea and be intoxicated by the flow of the language and the dappled light. I have always loved Moroccan design- it appeals to my obsession with hippie chic. Or perhaps I am just having a Debra Winger moment? Who knows. I just want to eat figs and laze languidly and stare at the sun.

Bloody Mary

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Hey everyone. Thanks for tuning in. I¹ve been racking my brain to think of an irreverent ditty for my first foray into the blogosphere. You know, a heady theory on creativity, some amazing new illustrator, the NBT. Instead here is my favorite Bloody Mary recipe from Harry¹s Bar in Paris, the birthplace of said drink- originally the drink called for equal parts tomato juice and vodka, but black and cayenne pepper, Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and lemon juice were added when the bloody was bought stateside to the King Cole Bar at Manhattan¹s St. Regis. Ponder the state of the marketing world while sucking down one of these- you simply don’t mess with a classic:

Bloody Mary

Ingredients:
- 2 oz vodka
- 3 oz Tomato Juice
- 1/2 oz Lemon Juice
- Black Pepper & Salt
- 3 dashes Worcestershire
- 2 drops Tabasco sauce
- Garnish: Lemon Wedge, Celery
- Glassware: Highball Glass

Shake all the ingredients in a shaker with ice and strain into a highball
glass over crushed ice. Garnish with the lemon wedge.
